Typically, your initial consultation with Dr. Wall will include taking a history and performing a physical examination.  Usually, a camera will be used to examine the nasal passages.  These images can be viewed by the patient during the examination on a video monitor.  Also, if you have had a “CAT” scan or CT scan of the sinuses previously, our office will request that you bring a copy of this study to the examination.  Dr. Wall can then review the study and point out areas of concern.

Our office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To schedule a consultation, please call us at (202) 862-2600 or complete out the form on our Contact page.

At the Washington DC Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Center (WENTAC), we follow the established clinical guidelines for treating sinusitis. Our first line treatment is medical therapy—which may include a range of medications designed to address your particular illness and symptoms.

Depending on your needs, Dr. Stephen Wall may recommend any of the following treatments:

Nasal Steroid Sprays

Nasal steroid sprays applied to the surface of the nasal passages can decrease the swelling in the mucous membrane lining of the sinuses.  This intervention can help to temporarily relieve symptoms. Some of our patients are reluctant to take medications containing steroids. Steroids can have side effects when taken over a longer period of time. Generally, this is more of a problem with oral steroids then with a topically-applied medication.  You can find out more about steroid sprays in the package insert, or discuss possible side effects during your office visit.

Antibiotics and Sinusitis

If sinus inflammation has led to the development of a bacterial infection, we may prescribe antibiotics to deal with symptoms related to that infection. Often, Dr. Wall will a obtain a culture to help to identify the organism responsible for the infection and the antibiotic best suited to eliminate the infection..

Allergy Diagnosis and Treatment

Our office provides “on-site testing” for allergies to inhaled elements and to many foods.  Identifying those allergens to which you are sensitive may assist in the management of your condition.  In many cases, allergy treatment may be the preferred treatment option for patients with recurrent sinus infections.

When Medical Therapy Fails—Advanced Treatment Options at WENTAC in Washington DC

At Dr. Wall’s office, we see many patients who suffer from chronic or recurrent acute sinusitis for whom medical therapy fails, or only provides temporary relief. For these patients, we have developed expertise in more advanced treatment options, including the traditional, in-hospital, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS).  This approach had been developed over the past 15 years and remains the “gold standard” for treatment of more severe forms of sinus disease.  For a subset of patients with more focused problems, the balloon dilation procedures are a proven option.

Contact WENTAC today to schedule a consultation to see which treatment option is right for you.
